Canada’s current first-generation limit denies citizenship rights to children born abroad to Canadian citizens who were also born outside Canada.
Bill C-71: An Act to amend the Citizenship Act (2024) arose from a constitutional challenge at the Ontario Superior Court of Justice which declared in December 2023 that the first-generation limit for those born abroad is unconstitutional. In this session, our panel of seasoned professionals will provide their perspectives and insights into these proposed changes and discuss:
