March 2024 was another eventful month for us and included the following highlights, developments, and updates.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Join us in Vancouver and Montreal<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We have made good progress in planning our first two in-person events of 2024 and hope to have you join us.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We will be in Vancouver on April 18 for a networking event between 4-6 PM PT and invite you to <\/span>register now<\/span><\/a>.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Join us in Montreal on May 9 between 2-4 PM ET. <\/span>Registration is free!<\/span><\/a>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Access to counsel and protecting newcomers\u00a0<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

On Monday March 25<\/span>th<\/span> we sent an important update to all CILA members on the progress we are making to strengthen access to counsel in Canada\u2019s immigration system as well as protecting newcomers from being represented by those who are underqualified. We will continue to provide you with key updates over the coming months.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Also on March 25<\/span>th<\/span>, CILA sent a <\/span>letter<\/span><\/a> to the Government of New Brunswick outlining our concerns regarding their new \u201cUsing a Representative\u201d webpage.\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Stakeholder Relations<\/span><\/b>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In early March, we were interviewed by the <\/span>Toronto Star<\/span><\/a> for a story on Canada\u2019s Immigration Levels Plan.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We were also interviewed by <\/span><\/span>Global News<\/span><\/span><\/a> to discuss how IRCC can offer more immigration support to Ukrainians.<\/span><\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

CILA thanks Tamara Mosher-Kuczer for <\/span>reappearing<\/span><\/a> before SOCI on our behalf for the study on Bill S-235.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We received a <\/span>response letter<\/span><\/a> from IRCC\u2019s new Deputy Minister and will be arranging a meeting with him shortly.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

CILA also met with officials at IRCC to discuss our forthcoming study on IRPA reform entitled <\/span>Cleaning up the Act<\/span><\/i>. We are aiming to have the report released to the public by May at the latest, but we are hopeful of an April release.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

CILA thanks Janet Thompson-Price for leading our Ask Me Anything session on March 28. We greatly appreciate Janet\u2019s contribution and support of junior immigration lawyers.<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
