The Canadian Immigration Lawyers Association (CILA) in partnership with various other immigration, civil liberties, and human rights organizations endorses a letter submitted to the Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) on January 19, 2022.<\/p>\n

The purpose of the letter is to address the lack of proportionality in Canada’s inadmissibility and deportation scheme. Namely, that Canada removes long-term permanent residents found inadmissible due to criminality without a proportionality assessment taking place at any stage.<\/p>\n

IACHR is asked to hold a thematic hearing on this matter during its 183rd session taking place in March 2022.<\/p>\n
