We are hosting our Annual General Meeting on June 19 and invite you to register<\/a>. The AGM will be another opportunity for you to help shape CILA\u2019s strategic direction, get a comprehensive update on CILA\u2019s activities, and more. Minister Marc Miller will deliver recorded remarks and answer your questions. Please submit any questions you may have for the Minister by June 7: research@cila.co\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n

Volunteer with CILA: Join our New Committees<\/strong><\/h2>\n

We are pleased to solicit expressions of interest<\/a> for CILA members to participate in new committees on key topics including Skilled Workers\/Work Permits; Business Immigration; Quebec; Family Sponsorship; Refugees; and Fraud. Volunteering is in CILA\u2019s DNA and we look forward to launching these new committees so we can continue to play a positive role in shaping Canada\u2019s immigration system. Thought-leadership and Stakeholder Relations<\/strong><\/h2>\n

CILA released over 10 articles<\/a> in May and are thankful to all those who contributed. Please click here<\/a>\u00a0if you have an article that you wish to submit to CILA. We welcome submissions on any topic you are interested in writing about.<\/p>\n

Earlier in the month CILA was invited by a Senator to engage in consultations on how to promote the benefits of immigration across Canada. In addition, CILA participated in an IRCC consultation in late-May on developing a Crisis Response Framework.<\/p>\n

Cleaning up the Act<\/em> Report<\/h2>\n

On May 28, CILA released our major report on IRPA reform entitled Cleaning up the Act<\/a><\/em>. CILA has met with IRCC twice to discuss the report and will continue to engage with federal government officials throughout the summer. The report was covered by the Toronto Star<\/a> and CityNews<\/a>. We also have an op-ed in the Hill Times<\/a>.<\/p>\n

On May 21, we co-hosted a webinar with the Mexican Bar Association on Canada\u2019s latest visa rules for Mexican citizens.<\/p>\n

On May 23, we hosted an AMA for junior immigration lawyers featuring Eleanor Somerleigh.<\/p>\n
