CILA’s latest Catalyst Canada episode is now live.
Catalyst Canada is convening stakeholders from across the country to explore how Canada can improve its policies to strengthen economic development through business immigration. Catalyst Canada is recording the episodes and then posting them on YouTube to stimulate national dialogue. It will culminate in the release of a major research report in fall 2025.
Featuring Professor Wendy Cukier and Professor Benson Honig, episode #8 discusses:
- Why immigrant entrepreneurial potential is being overlooked—and why that must change to reverse Canada’s entrepreneurial decline
- How immigrant entrepreneurship has reshaped Canada’s business culture
- Why programs like the Startup Visa are too slow, too narrow, and prone to abuse
- How settlement services are failing immigrant entrepreneurs—and what must replace them
- Broadening our view of entrepreneurship—beyond tech to include health, food, agriculture, and more
- How to select entrepreneurs, how to measure them, how to support them, and how to define success
- Why entrepreneurial failure must be destigmatized in immigration policy
- How Canada’s immigrant diversity can drive new global trade linkages
- Why Canada must be entrepreneurial—and willing to take measured risks—with its immigration policies
