CILA’s latest Catalyst Canada episode is now live.

Catalyst Canada is convening stakeholders from across the country to explore how Canada can improve its policies to strengthen economic development through business immigration. Catalyst Canada is recording the episodes and then posting them on YouTube to stimulate national dialogue. It will culminate in the release of a major research report in fall 2025.

Featuring Senator Colin Deacon and Dr. Kyle Briggs, episode #9 discusses:

  • Why Canada’s innovation policy is designed to avoid failure instead of seeking success
  • How risk capital gaps are killing early-stage tech and deep tech companies
  • The commercialization failure of university research—and how to fix it
  • Anti-competitive barriers forcing Canadian innovators to scale abroad
  • Using immigration to attract serial entrepreneurs and global mentors
  • Leveraging a passive investor program to inject $45 billion/year into the economy
  • Public–private partnerships that derisk early-stage investment while embracing inevitable failures
  • Reforming regulations and modernizing privacy and cybersecurity laws to support growth
  • Metrics that actually matter: equity value creation, IP retention, TRL progression, and ecosystem reinvestment
